WOMEN’S BASKETBALL : Leslie Gets 30 in Debut

Tammy Story scored 36 points and Lisa Leslie, the highly regarded freshman from Inglewood Morningside High, added 30 points as No. 25-ranked USC upset No. 7 Texas, 88-77, in the Trojans’ women’s basketball opener Sunday night at the Lyon Center.
UCLA collapsed in the second half, committing 23 turnovers and losing to Kansas, 76-63, in the consolation game of the Amana-Hawkeye women’s basketball tournament at Iowa City, Iowa.
Rehema Stephens had 14 points to lead UCLA, and Kansas’ Misti Chennault had 22.
No. 6 Tennessee 95, No. 2 Stanford 80--Tennessee center Daedra Charles scored 19 second-half points to lead the Lady Vols at Knoxville.
