Racketeering Trial of Ex-Officer, Brother Opens
Convicted murderer Steven Homick was described Monday as the leader of a criminal gang that allegedly killed at least six people and participated in a series of other crimes.
A federal prosecutor detailed Homick’s alleged role as head of a criminal enterprise that specialized in murder for hire, arson, drug trafficking and other crimes as his trial opened in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas.
Homick, a former Los Angeles police officer who was convicted last year of three Las Vegas murders, is charged with racketeering along with his brother, Los Angeles attorney Robert Homick, and Neil Woodman.
Assistant U.S. Atty. Eric Johnson, in a lengthy opening argument, said Steven Homick was the gunman in the so-called “ninja” killings of Woodman’s parents, Gerald and Vera Woodman of Brentwood, in September, 1985. He also said that Robert Homick helped plan the slayings.
Johnson said the Woodmans were killed at the request of their sons, Stewart and Neil Woodman.
