Nation IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : Jogger Case Figure Says Police Hit Him

A defendant in the Central Park jogger trial testified that police hit, coached and deceived him to make him confess to attacking a female jogger who was raped and almost beaten to death in April, 1989. Kharey Wise, 18, said detectives took him to a blood-covered spot in the New York City park and told him to smear the woman’s congealed blood on his clothes. Wise and co-defendant Kevin Richardson, 16, are charged with multiple crimes in the attack on the jogger and two men.
