Kennedy Center Honors: Trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie, actress Katharine Hepburn, mezzo-soprano Rise Stevens, composer Jule Styne and film director Billy Wilder have been chosen to receive this year’s honors from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and will be paid tribute Sunday night in Washington at the 13th annual Celebration of the Arts gala at the Kennedy Center’s Opera House. President and Mrs. Bush will receive the honorees Sunday at the White House before the celebration, which will be televised Dec. 28 at 9 p.m. on CBS. The five honorees are chosen by the center’s board of trustees for their contribution to the cultural life of the nation through the performing arts.
