From Times Staff and Wire reports

Burton Tansky, the president of Saks Fifth Avenue, is quitting to join and eventually become the top executive of Bergdorf Goodman, a competing high-fashion retailer in New York.

A retailing industry source close to Bergdorf confirmed Monday that Tansky, 52, will soon be named vice chairman. He is to take over as chairman and chief executive in February, 1992, when the contract of Bergdorf’s current top executive, 67-year-old Ira Neimark, expires.
