P.M. BRIEFING : Germany Hums on East’s Needs
The western German economy continued to boom in the third quarter, sparked by increased domestic investments and high demand from the new eastern part of Germany, the Federal Statistics Office said today.
Western Germany’s gross national product soared 5.5% in the third quarter this year, compared to a year ago, it said.
Increased investment activity within the country and high demand from eastern Germany, which became part of the Federal Republic on Oct. 3, boosted the GNP in the western part of the country, the report said.
