War With Iraq
Krauthammer is wrong. There is no compelling argument for a U.S. offensive in the Persian Gulf!
We do not need the oil--in fact, we need to break the oil habit altogether. Moreover, it will hardly bring peace to the region if we bomb women and children from the air or commit our troops to a long, bloody ground battle.
In contrast, the argument against American offensive action is absolutely irrefutable. Only Congress has constitutional authority to declare war and it has not done so. If President Bush orders military action without a formal declaration of war, then he will be, as his predecessor was, a common thug.
