PLACENTIA : City Council Elects Newton as Mayor
Arthur G. Newton, an accountant and member of the City Council for six years, was elected mayor of Placentia this week.
Council members elected Newton, 40, by a 4-1 vote. Councilwoman Maria Moreno voted against Newton after nominating John O. Tynes to the post. Tynes declined the nomination.
Newton replaces Norman Z. Eckenrode, whose term as mayor expired this year. Eckenrode was reelected to the City Council in November.
Tynes, 74, was elected mayor pro tem. He has served four terms on the City Council since the 1950s and is a retired superintendent of the Placentia Unified School District.
