Man Sent to Prison for Assault on Police Horse

RALEIGH, N. C. —
A horse is not always just a horse. Sometimes he’s a large police officer.
That’s what a judge said when he sentenced a Raleigh man to one year in prison for assaulting a police officer by kicking the officer’s mount, Heir Apparent.
The defendant was convicted of kicking the police horse twice while the officer was trying to arrest him. The horse reared but wasn’t injured.
