Music Center Grants: The Norman Chandler family has made a grant of $1.5 million to the Music Center Foundation, providing total funding for the Music Center’s annual Dorothy B. Chandler Performing Arts Awards program. Dorothy Chandler inaugurated the annual awards for outstanding young artists in 1989, in connection with the Music Center’s 25th anniversary. Each winner receives $25,000 and a Robert Graham sculpture. The 1990 awards will be given to two artists from the fields of dance and opera selected by Gerald Arpino, artistic director of the Joffrey Ballet, and Peter Hemmings, general director of the Los Angeles Music Center Opera, and a group of their colleagues. Winners will be announced June 9.
