High-level sources close to the investigation of the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Scotland two years ago said new evidence implicates Libya in the attack, the Independent newspaper reported today.

The Independent said suspicion of Libyan involvement was based on an analysis of a detonator fragment found in a field close to the Scottish border town of Lockerbie.

The sources, who told the newspaper the evidence was “conclusive,” said the fragment was identical to one found in a radio-cassette bomb seized from two alleged Libyan agents arrested in Dakar airport in Senegal in February, 1988.

One source told the newspaper, “Not only do we now know (Libyan leader Moammar) Kadafi was responsible, he also knows we know.”
