LAPD Gang Expert Gets Suspension for Quarrel

Share

Los Angeles Police Officer Carl McGill, who gained national recognition as an anti-gang expert, was given a 22-day suspension Friday for an incident last year in which he was involved in a shouting match with a police supervisor.

McGill, who is 31 and has been with the LAPD for five years, had once been profiled by the national press for his efforts sponsoring gang education projects in the inner-city.

But his problems with police management began last fall when he accused a supervisor of breaking into his car after the supervisor visited his home. The supervisor had gone to the home because McGill had not shown up for work and had not properly notified his superiors that he was sick.
