Rams, Robinson Take Hits for Their Strategy On and Off the Field

Share

When the Rams drafted Cleveland Gary, Coach John Robinson said he was just too good a player to pass up. This, despite the fact that the much-needed defensive help was available in Louis Oliver, the safety who has been a big part of Miami’s defensive turnaround.

Not only is Gary not the player he was thought to be (“He wasn’t a fumbler in college”), Oliver’s tremendous range and tackling prowess would never have allowed Gill Fenerty to tiptoe 60 yards for a momentum-changing touchdown. Instead of a romp, the Rams blundered away the season, but their biggest blunder was at the draft table.
