La Puente : Division of Lot Approved

A bid to increase the salability of a lot containing a vacant Gemco department store, a Unocal service station and 771 empty parking spaces has won City Council approval.

The council Tuesday voted unanimously approve an application by the landowner, La Puente-Beverly Road Assn., to divide the lot into three parcels, one large and two small.

Rick Hartmann, the city’s planning and community development director, said subdividing the lot will encourage prospective buyers by increasing the flexibility of development.

The Gemco store has been vacant since late 1986, and the gas station is the only business operating on the 12.83-acre site along Hacienda Boulevard north of Francisquito Avenue.
