CAMARILLO : Teachers, District to Discuss Contract

Share

Contract negotiations will resume today between officials of the Pleasant Valley Elementary School District and representatives of the district’s teachers union in an effort to agree on salary and benefits.

In addition, each side has brought one issue to the table. The district wants to clarify the policy on teachers and other certificated personnel transferring within the district, and the teachers are asking for more class preparation time. The Camarillo district has 6,400 students.

The district and the Pleasant Valley Educators Assn. met twice in negotiating sessions in October and November and had another meeting scheduled for mid-February, but both sides decided to send three representatives each to meet with a mediator today to try to settle the contract before February, said Ina Lea Parker, president of the 300-member association.

If an agreement is reached today, both teams will meet to finalize details, after which the teachers will vote on the proposal. The teachers’ current contract does not expire until the end of the year.
