World IN BRIEF : SOVIET UNION : 200,000 in Moldova Protest Union Pact

As many as 200,000 people rallied in Kishinev, capital of the republic of Moldova, to reject President Mikhail S. Gorbachev’s proposed union treaty, designed to hold the crumbling country together. Local reporters said the demonstrators demanded territory in neighboring Ukraine while calling on Moldovan deputies to boycott today’s opening of the Soviet Parliament.
