World IN BRIEF : ISRAEL : U.S. Assails Plan to Expel Arab Activists
The United States denounced Israel’s decision to renew its policy of deporting Arab activists, but Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Arens said he will exile more Palestinian leaders if necessary to fight unrest. Rejecting U.S. opposition to the planned deportation of four Arabs, Arens said, “I imagine that the expulsion decided (Saturday) will not be the last.” A State Department spokesman said the United States deplores the decision to order deportations. Israel renewed its deportation policy in hopes of ending a wave of Arab attacks inside Israel.
