From Times Staff and Wire reports

Hard-nosed businesswoman Beatrice Bongibault, brought in as managing director to cut costs at Paris fashion house Christian Dior, has been axed.

A Christian Dior spokeswoman said Bongibault was relieved of her duties Monday. She declined to give further details.

Bongibault, 37, was brought in two years ago by Christian Dior’s owner, LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA luxury group Chairman Bernard Arnault, to revitalize the traditional fashion house.

She shocked the fashion world by dismissing veteran designer Marc Bohan, a favorite of Princess Caroline of Monaco, and replacing him with Italian stylist Gianfranco Ferre.
