Kickback case--The Times reported Tuesday that a components engineer for Hughes Aircraft Co. in Fullerton pleaded guilty in federal court to soliciting kickback payments from two subcontractors--Bergquist Co. of Long Beach and Lyn-Tron Inc. of Burbank. The news item did not make clear that both companies cooperated with the government investigation and were not implicated in any wrongdoing.

According to Assistant U.S. Atty. Stephen Mansfield, Wright attempted to conceal the illegal payments through his office cleaning business. He said the case was “part of a wide-ranging investigation,” but didn’t elaborate.

Wright faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on each count. His lawyer, William A. Dougherty, said Wright “is going to cooperate with the government completely.”
