‘Cure Notice’ on Navy’s A-12 Issued: The Pentagon formally told key contractors that their performance on the Avenger bomber was unacceptable and upped the deadline to suggest a recovery plan to Jan. 2 from Jan. 4. Pentagon spokesman Pete Williams revealed that the department had issued a “cure notice,” which is formal notification to the contractors “that the government considers contractor performance unsatisfactory.” Williams said the $4.7-billion contract could be terminated if St. Louis-based contractors General Dynamics Corp. and McDonnell Douglas Corp. fail to devise a remedy for the problems plaguing the program.
