A Santa Clara County judge denied a request by Hyundai Electronics America Inc. for a new trial in a case in which Hyundai was ordered to pay $450,000 to Huntington Beach-based Columbus International for breach of contract.

Columbus, a maker of computer memory modules, claimed during the trial that San Jose-based Hyundai attempted to auction off Columbus’ allotment of memory chips during a chip shortage in 1988.
