Long Beach : Symphony Assn. Renews Falletta Contract for 3 Years

The Long Beach Symphony Assn. has announced the renewal of Musical Director JoAnn Falletta’s contract for three years.

“The Long Beach Symphony is entering an exciting period with unprecedented audience growth and sound finances,” Mary Newkirk, the symphony’s general manager, said in a press release. “We are prepared to support the artistic vision JoAnn has created for the orchestra.”

Appointed director in 1989, Falletta is credited with having increased Long Beach Symphony ticket sales by 54% in her second year. She is also director of the Denver Chamber Orchestra and the Women’s Philharmonic in San Francisco.

“I have been challenged and stimulated by the artistic climate in Long Beach and am thrilled to be returned for three more years,” Falletta said.
