The Escondido school districts and the City Council resolved their 4 1/2-year-long dispute over redevelopment funds Wednesday as the city handed over $3 million in checks to the two school districts and the county Office of Education.

The settlement allows for the schools to begin receiving their share of the redevelopment funds immediately. Originally, the schools would have had to wait until the year 2000 to start receiving any funds.

The redevelopment agency was formed in 1983 and is expected to collect $450 million over its 45-year life.
