Pete Melvin and Steve Rosenberg of Long Beach flew a protest flag as they took a 2-0 lead in a best-of-seven semifinal of the Little America’s Cup for 25-foot C Class catamarans at McCrae, Australia. The Americans, sailing for the Chula Vista Yacht Club, are seeking to have the French boat disqualified because its new hard-sail rig was built in Australia, not in the “country of origin,” according to the rules.
