Home burglaries in Orange County take place largely in the light of day. Just over half of residences struck in 1989, 54%, were burglarized during the day, whereas 24% where hit at night. The timing of the remaining 22% is unknown. The preference of residential burglars for working during the day has prevailed in each of the last five years.

In 1989, the most recent year for which complete statistics are available, the daylight favorite was San Juan Capistrano, where 76% of the break-ins took place during the day. The lowest daytime rate was San Clemente’s 28%.
