City Council OKs Raises for Precinct Officials

The Los Angeles City Council on Friday unanimously approved a $10 raise for the city’s 10,400 election precinct officials. The council approved raising the daily rate of precinct inspectors from $45 to $55, and that of precinct judges and clerks from $35 to $45.

The total expenditure for salary increases was set at $252,000. A total of $300,000 had been set aside in the 1990-91 budget for the increases so the funds will not come from the city’s dwindling reserve fund.

The action was taken on the recommendation of officials of the city clerk’s office, who said that in order to continue to attract qualified workers, the salary increase was in order.

Also, the raise was urged because the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors recently upped the per diem wage for county election workers.
