Darryl Strawberry sat out the final game of the season yesterday due to an aggravated toe. Strawberry, whose sore head kept him from playing at his usual 50% during much of the Dodgers’ stretch drive, said that next year he wants to “put all this behind myself.”

“I learned something this year,” continued the right fielder. “Darryl Strawberry has to go out and have some fun. He has to stay within myself. I can’t do it all just because everybody expects me to be Darryl Strawberry, because that’s not who Darryl Strawberry is. I have to learn not to take everything everybody says so seriously, especially myself. Anyway, I’ve got four more years on this contract and then I’m going to go somewhere where Darryl Strawberry can be appreciated for who I am.”

Dodger notes: Tom Lasorda will be serving as an analyst on CBS’ pregame show during the NLCS between the Giants and Mets set to get under way Wednesday in New York.
