2 Youths Badly Injured When Struck by Cars

Two Ventura County children were seriously injured Saturday when they were hit by cars in separate accidents.

An 8-year-old Oxnard boy was hit Saturday afternoon as he ran into the street at Del Sol Park, Oxnard police said.

At 12:26 p.m., Hugo Alcala ran into traffic near the intersection of Rose Avenue and San Gorgonio Street and hit the side of a moving vehicle driven by Margaret Trevino, 29, also of Oxnard, police said. Hugo was taken to Ventura County Medical Center and admitted to intensive care, where he was reported in guarded condition Saturday.

Trevino was cited by officers for driving without a license, police said. An investigation is continuing.

At about 2 p.m. in the 300 block of North Ojai Road, 17-year-old Cecilia Rodriquez was struck by a car driven by her father, Eduviges Rodriquez, and knocked through a block fence, Santa Paula police said. Cecilia was taken to Santa Paula Memorial Hospital and then was transferred to Ventura County Medical Center, where she underwent surgery.

No arrests were made, and the investigation is continuing, police said.
