Ole Christian Furuseth of Norway cruised to his second World Cup slalom victory of the season, beating Sweden’s Tomas Fogdoe at Kranjska Gora, Yugoslavia.

Furuseth, 23, clocked a winning time of 1 minute 46.80 seconds, leaving Fogdoe 15 hundredths of a second behind. It was the second time in four races this season that the 20-year-old Swede finished second.

Alberto Tomba of Italy, who missed a gate Saturday, still leads the overall World Cup standings with 97 points. Furuseth is second, nine points back.

The only American who qualified for the second run, Tiger Shaw, finished 16th, trailing Furuseth by 5.40 seconds.

Blanca Fernandez-Ochoa of Spain returned from injury to win the World Cup women’s slalom at Morzine, France, after Petra Kronberger of Austria faltered in the first run.

Fernandez-Ochoa had a combined time of 1 minute 27.66 seconds after leading the first run with 44.08.

Pernilla Wiberg of Sweden was second in 1:28.61, and Vreni Schneider of Switzerland was third in 1:28.72 after clocking the fastest time in the second leg.

Kronberger, who had won four of the first six races this season, including the first slalom, nearly fell at the start of the first run and missed a gate.
