Federal Express Moved ‘Em Out: The Memphis-based package deliverer Federal Express said it handled more than 2 million items in one day last week as the Christmas season approached. More than 5,500 employees are working in the company’s national hub in Memphis at this time of year. The facility takes up 1.4 million square feet of covered space, or 295 acres. It has 35 miles of conveyor belts to carry thousands of packages through a stainless steel network of platforms, stairs and observation towers.
