A U.S. appeals court refused to intervene in a court order that allowed Nancy Cruzan’s parents to remove a feeding tube Dec. 14 that has kept her alive in a vegetative state since a 1983 car accident left her brain-damaged. A three-judge panel of the U.S. 8th Circuit Court of Appeals dismissed a request for a temporary injunction filed on behalf of Cruzan, 33, by the Rev. Patrick Mahoney, director of the Center for Christian Activism in Florida. Doctors at the Missouri Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Vernon, Mo., have said she will die within two weeks without the feeding tube.
