Water Rates Go Up Jan. 1 for Residents of 12 Cities

Residents of a dozen cities in Los Angeles County will be charged higher water rates beginning New Year’s Day as the result of a Public Utilities Commission decision on Thursday.

Authorization for the increases in three water districts was granted to Southern California Water Co. (SoCal Water) to cover increased operating costs and to offset inflation, said PUC spokeswoman Kyle DeVine.

Residents of the SoCal Water’s Pomona Valley District, which covers Claremont, Montclair, Pomona and Upland, will see a $5.79 monthly increase, DeVine said. Residents of the Wrightwood District, including portions of the northern slopes of the San Gabriel Mountains, will typically see a $7.52 hike. In the San Gabriel District, serving Monterey Park, Rosemead, San Gabriel, El Monte, Irwindale, Monrovia and Temple City, the increase will average $5.45.
