California IN BRIEF : SACRAMENTO : Disability Taxes, Benefits to Rise

Payroll taxes and benefits under California’s disability insurance program will increase next year, the state Employment Development Department announced. The maximum weekly benefit for disability beginning after Jan. 1 will increase from $266 to $336. To offset the increase in benefits, the maximum payroll tax collected from workers will increase from $226 to $317 a year, state officials said. The program covers about 11 million people in California.
