United Way Teams Will Assess Agencies Applying for Funds

From 150 to 175 volunteers will help evaluate agencies applying for funds from United Way of Ventura County.

United Way needs volunteers to fill 20 teams that will work from 20 to 30 hours during March and April. Volunteers will review applications for United Way funds, visit program sites and meet with agency representatives. They will assess how effective the programs are, how well they are managed and determine how much funding they need, officials said.

The 64 agencies that will be evaluated provide services for victims of abuse and neglect, youth development, counseling, senior citizens, the disabled, and health care.

“This is an outstanding opportunity for citizens to learn about current and newly emerging needs in the community,” said Richard Wittenberg, allocation chairman, “and to gain valuable insights into the efforts of human care agencies to meet those needs.”
