From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Power Plant Fires Up: The William H. Zimmer Generating Station--the only power plant in the world to be converted from nuclear to coal-fired--has produced its first electricity. Located on the Ohio River about 25 miles southeast of Cincinnati, the 1.3-million-kilowatt plant is owned by Cincinnati Gas & Electric Co., Columbus Southern Power Co. and Dayton Power & Light Co. The three utilities chose to convert the plant to coal because of rising costs and the uncertainties of getting a license.
