Rehabilitating Sen. McCarthy
I agree with Scruton. McCarthy’s fight against communism started in February, 1950. On April 5, 1950, the Daily Worker declared “communists are keenly aware of the damage the McCarthy crowd is doing.” The next month the communists coined the deadly word McCarthyism . The May 4, 1950, Daily Worker quoted Communist Party national secretary Gus Hall as giving the following directive: “I urge all Communist Party members . . . to yield second place to none in the fight to rid our country of the fascist poison of McCarthyism.”
Yet the American people took up the chant of “McCarthyism” and allowed the deceivers to bewitch them into believing that the senator was an evil demagogue.
Sen. McCarthy has been vindicated as is evident by the collapse of communism throughout the world.
