A 27-year-old passenger stood up on a Hollywood bus and stabbed a man before slitting his own throat, police said.

Elias Morales was arrested for investigation of assault with a deadly weapon, said Officer Alvin Waters of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollywood Division. Morales was in the intensive care unit at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Melecio Perez, 28, was hospitalized at Queen of Angels-Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center for stab wounds, Waters said.

Sgt. Pat Findley said Morales was riding the Rapid Transit District bus about 5 p.m. Tuesday when he allegedly stabbed Perez twice.

“No one heard him say anything,” Findley said.

Morales then stabbed himself twice in the chest. As other passengers screamed, the driver stopped the bus and Morales got off, police said.

He cut his own throat after the driver opened the door near Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue, police said.
