The Laguna Art Museum has named M.A. Greenstein as its new curator of education, effective Jan. 21. She replaces Diane Sherman, who resigned last July to pursue personal projects.

Greenstein, who teaches a course in performance art at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga, previously was curatorial assistant to the director of the college’s Wignall Museum Gallery, said Laguna Museum Director Charles Desmarais.

She holds a doctorate in education from Claremont Graduate School, a master’s in dance from UCLA and a bachelor in art history from UCLA, Desmarais said.

The appointment will mean new educational projects, Desmarais said. Noting that Greenstein has also taught art theory, practice and criticism at the Claremont school, Scripps College and Loyola Marymount University, he plans to strengthen the museum’s adult education division with a class on the history of California art.

Plans also call for Greenstein to develop a new traveling school exhibit entitled, “My Culture, Our Culture,” which will focus on ethnic diversity, and a hands-on exhibit to teach children about about various aspects of art.

“I want to continue the children’s programs for which the museum has become well known, but I also want to strengthen our adult education department. I think (Greenstein) will be good at providing that balance,” Desmarais said.
