Monrovia : ‘Telecommuting’ Plan OKd

Share

The City Council on Wednesday approved a policy that will allow some city employees to work out of their homes in order to cut down on automobile commuting, traffic and smog.

The “telecommuting” policy is modeled after a program implemented by Los Angeles County, which now has 700 employees linked to their offices by home computers. City analyst Debbie Bell told the council that employees who choose to work at home must be able to work independently and continue their productivity.

Bell noted, however, that the Monrovia Municipal Employees Assn. has expressed concern that telecommuting may be unfair because many workers, such as police officers, are ineligible to participate.
