A 33-year-old man who went outside to shake a soiled blanket was shot and killed early Wednesday morning in the driveway of his Southeast San Diego home, police said.
Police, firefighters and paramedics responding to reports of shots being fired and an injury found the body of Russell J. Quinlan beneath a pickup truck parked in the 4000 block of Nordica Avenue about 1:42 a.m. Attempts to revive Quinlan, who was shot four times in the head, arm and leg, failed and he was pronounced dead at the scene minutes later, Police Lt. Dan Berglund said.
Quinlan’s family reported hearing a shout followed by a single gunshot, then a volley of shots. A man was seen pointing a gun under the truck, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
Quinlan may have been seeking cover under the truck when he was shot, Berglund said.
