An 18-year-old motorist was killed by gunfire from another car, and two suspected gang members were arrested in the death early Friday, police said.

Harold A. Lefton of Inglewood was driving down an alley east of Crenshaw Boulevard in Inglewood when he stopped his vehicle before turning onto 108th Street about 4 p.m. Thursday.

A car pulled alongside and the occupants flashed gang signals. One of them pulled out a handgun and opened fire, Officer Terry Hoggett said. Lefton was taken to Daniel Freeman Hospital, where he died, Hoggett said.

Eight hours later, a police officer driving in the 3200 block of West Imperial Highway noticed a car matching the description of a car driven by Lefton’s killers. The officer observed one of two occupants toss a handgun out the window. The two were arrested when authorities determined the gun was of the same caliber used to kill Lefton.

Darryl L. Dove, 22, and Derek N. Johnson, 27, of Inglewood were booked on suspicion of murder, police said.
