Little Love for ‘Letters’ Casting

Regarding Barbara Isenberg’s Dec. 30 article, “Keep Those ‘Letters’ Coming”:

The producers of “Love Letters” have a unique gimmick to draw audiences to their two-person show. Each week a new cast is selected from TV and movie fame, using star power to get people to buy tickets. It is also a deceptive device.

One member of our family was thrilled to see Carrie Fisher’s scheduled appearance and promptly bought two tickets. It was upon arriving at the theater that she learned that Fisher had been replaced with the male counterpart’s wife.

Also, being a “Twin Peaks” fanatic, I rushed out to be among the first to get seats when it was advertised that (the TV series’) Kyle MacLachlan and Lara Flynn Boyle would be appearing in the show. Three days before I was to attend, their faces disappeared from the advertisements and they were replaced by other actors.

This is not to say that the show is not worth seeing, or that the replacement actors were not capable of the roles. However, let this serve as a warning. Reconsider buying tickets when a favorite celebrity’s face is seen peering out from the advertisement. Promises are often broken.
