County Should Do Wilderness Job Right, Quit Calling People Eco-Freaks

I will never rest until I voice my opinion on Orange County’s environmentally compassionate “fathers,” the county planning commissioners and the Board of Supervisors. Maybe sometime, hopefully soon, the people of this county will realize that they have nobody to thank but themselves for voting people into office who are destroying the environment and our quality of life.

It sickened me to read The Times’ article on the proposed Las Flores development by the Santa Margarita Co. How can a planning commissioner sit back and jokingly comment on issuing hunting permits to wipe out animals in a delicate wilderness area proposed for more massive development? This comment shows the kind of incompetence and lack of intelligence we have in our “planning parties.” This statement lacks leadership and is a disgrace to the respective office.

The Las Flores project will destroy one of the last stands of oak and sycamore woodlands and native grasses and brush crucial for wildlife survival.

Yet the supervisors sought few concessions from the developer that would protect the environment. They even had the right to ask the developer to compensate the 250 acres lost in the development, to re-create it elsewhere, but they didn’t!

I think it’s time for the voting public to review the portfolio of county representatives.

I hope the Audubon Society wins its lawsuit against this monster.
