A judge has dismissed aggravated disorderly conduct charges filed against a husband and wife who displayed a placard critical of Cleveland Browns owner Art Modell at a game last Nov. 18.

George and Mary Harris of Mogadore were cleared of the charges Monday by Cleveland Municipal Judge Ronald B. Adrine, who said there was insufficient evidence to uphold the counts.

George Harris was arrested when he refused to give up the sign and his wife was charged when she refused to give up the couple’s ticket stubs to off-duty city police working as security guards.

The sign read, “Coaches Coach. Modell, But Out. Miss You Bud,” referring to fired Browns Coach Bud Carson.

Harris argued that his constitutional rights had been violated and that Modell had ordered all critical signs confiscated. He had demanded a jury trial.

The Browns finished 3-13, worst in franchise history.
