OJAI : Newspaper to Drop Monday Publication

Share

Three days after taking over as its new publisher, Jon Fishman announced that the Ojai Valley News is dropping its Monday edition.

The community newspaper, which has a circulation of about 6,200, will continue to be published on Wednesday and Saturday after Jan. 28, he said.

Fishman, from Green Valley, Ariz., said his decision to discontinue the Monday paper is not due to the recession or the escalating cost of newsprint.

Darrow Tully, the newspaper’s former publisher, started the Monday edition in May, 1988, to provide weekend news, sports and entertainment coverage. But it has been a drain on the company’s resources, Fishman said. Tully has accepted a post as head of a newspaper chain in Massachusetts.

Ojai Valley News subscribers will receive extended subscriptions as credit for one less edition, Fishman said.
