The City Council has unanimously selected the second-lowest of six bidders to replace 250 street lights and thousands of feet of wiring in east Alhambra.

The council agreed Monday to pay $437,760 to Analite Corp. of Los Angeles, $18,287 more than the lowest bid by Raymor Electric Co. of Baldwin Park, which the council declared a non-responsible bidder.

In his report, Assistant City Manager Terry James urged the council to reject Raymor’s bid because of alleged past difficulties the company has had paying its subcontractors, suppliers and payroll taxes in jobs for other cities.

Raymor President Ray Morales responded that the company has successfully completed several other jobs for Alhambra and has resolved problems with its work for other cities, including Los Angeles, San Gabriel and Duarte.
