COUNTYWIDE : Supervisor Riley Back in Hospital

Share

Supervisor Thomas F. Riley, who underwent open heart surgery on Dec. 31, was readmitted to the hospital Wednesday afternoon for follow-up treatment, his office reported.

“His spirits are good,” said Christie McDaniel, an executive assistant to Riley. “Of course, he’s somewhat disappointed because he’d hoped to be up and about a little sooner, but this is just for a couple of days.”

According to McDaniel, doctors expect Riley to be in the hospital until Friday for a series of tests to check the condition of his heart and review the medication he is receiving.

Riley, 78, is the board’s senior member. He appeared with his colleagues Monday to be sworn in for his fifth term in office, but he appeared drawn at that ceremony and had to be helped in and out of his chair.

At Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, where Riley underwent a quadruple bypass operation, doctors said it is normal to be tired after the surgery. They predicted it would be several months before he resumes his full working schedule.
