Saudi Arabia began censoring its weather forecasts Wednesday because the information could be used by Iraq.

State-run Saudi television limited its normally in-depth forecast to a brief description of weather trends, cutting out information on expected temperatures, wind velocity and wave heights in the gulf.

“Weather is too important these days for military and other reasons; that is why were are limiting our broadcast,” said an official at the government weather facility in the Red Sea port of Jidda.
