More than 100 U.S.-based journalists flew to the Persian Gulf region today on a military transport plane to reinforce colleagues reporting on the war with Iraq.

The flight aboard a C-141 transport plane, carrying 127 writers, photographers, cameramen and support personnel, was arranged in advance by the Pentagon to leave for the Middle East once hostilities began.

The plane’s departure, scheduled for 2:30 a.m. California time, was delayed for nearly four hours by what was described as a minor technical problem with the aircraft.

Tentative plans were for a 28-hour journey.
