Heeding environmentalists’ concerns for tropical rain forests, some major pencil manufacturers are pledging not to use rain-forest wood in their products, according to a story in NEA Today, the newspaper of the National Education Assn.
The companies, instead, have agreed to use only American-grown incense cedar in their pencils. Look for the message “contains no tropical rain-forest wood” on pencil packages.
